Alle Reisenden, die ich traf, schwärmten von Hampi... da auch mein Vater Hampi genannt wurde und es direkte Verbindungen von Gokarna aus gibt, betrachtete ich es als nomen est omen...

All travellers I met raved about Hampi... since my father was also called Hampi and there are direct connections from Gokarna, I considered it as nomen est omen...

Schon der Ausblick von der Busstation war überwältigend als wir um 8:30 Uhr nach 350 km in Hampi ankamen! Da mein Hotel sich ausserhalb befindet, verhandelte ich mit Appu und seinem Tuktuk einen Preis für einen halben Tag inkl. Besuch der wichtigsten Monumente sowie die Fahrt zum Hotel. Das war die beste Idee, denn morgens war es noch einigermassen angenehm (nachmittags über 35 Grad!) und am einfachsten mit meinem vielen Gepäck! Es gibt zwar eine Passagierfähre, aber vom andern Ufer sind es immer noch ca. 10 km und 20 Minuten zum Hampi's Boulder.

Already the view from the bus station was overwhelming when we arrived Hampi at 8:30 am after 350 km! Since my hotel was outside, I negotiated with Appu and his tuktuk a price for half a day including a visit to the most important monuments and drop off at the hotel. That was the best idea, because in the morning it was still reasonably pleasant (in the afternoon over 35 degrees!) and easiest with all my luggage! There is a passenger ferry, but it is still about 10 km and 20 minutes to Hampi's Boulder to the hotel from there.

Appu führte mich souverän durch das UNESCO Weltkulturerbe aus dem Mittelalter, wo einst eine halbe Million Menschen lebten. Er gab mir zu allem eine Zusammenfassung, Anekdote und nannte Schwerpunkten, die man gesehen haben muss. Es ist ein riesiges Gelände, wofür man mehr als einem Tag benötigt um alles zu sehen… Nachdem ich für heute die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten aus dem 14. Jh. bestaunt und abgeknipst hatte, machten wir einen Mittagshalt im Pink Mango. Es war sehr heiss, ich fühlte meine Müdigkeit und mich schmutzig... nun war ich echt bereit für den Luxus, den ich mir für die kommenden 2 Nächte leistete! : )

Appu guided me masterfully through the UNESCO World Heritage Site from the Middle Ages, where half a million people used to live. On each stop he gave me a summary, anecdote and the main points to have seen. It is a huge area that takes more than a day to explore... After admiring and snapping off the most important sights from the 14th century, we stopped for a lunch at the Pink Mango. It was very hot, I felt tired and dirty... now I was really ready for the luxury I was treating myself to the next 2 nights!

Um 14 Uhr lud Appu mich im Hampi's Boulders aus, einem ökologischen Resort mitten in der Wildnis am Tungabhadra Fluss mit seinen ausgewaschenen Felsbrocken. Nachdem ich mich in meinem wunderschönen Zimmer mit traumhafter Aussicht eingerichtet hatte, wollte ich etwas arbeiten... aber das Internet funktionierte nur beim Pool und das schwach! Das nette Personal gab mir ein persönliches Modem und erklärte mir, dass seit einiger Zeit Probleme mit Naturaktivisten herrschen, die versuchen das Naturreservat zu schützen, denn viele Restaurants und Hotels hatten sich auf dieser Seite des Flusses niedergelassen. Dabei wurde auch die Empfangsantenne des Hampi's Boulder zerstört, obschon es sich für den Naturschutz einsetzt. Seit einigen Tagen hält die Regierung die vielen Geschäfte in der Nähe der Fähre geschlossen...

At 2 pm Appu dropped me off at Hampi's Boulders, an ecological resort in the middle of the wilderness on the Tungabhadra River with its washed-out boulders. After I had installed myself in my beautiful room with a fantastic view, I wanted to work a bit... but the internet only worked at the pool and too weak! The nice staff gave me a personal modem and explained that for some time now there had been problems with nature activists trying to protect the nature reserve because many restaurants and hotels had settled on this side of the river. The antenna of the Hampi's Boulder was also destroyed, although it is committed to nature conservation. Just a few days ago the government closed down the many businesses near the ferry...

Am späteren Nachmittag ging ich auf eine der Exkursionen, die das Hampi's Boulder mit Führern anbietet. Es ging über Stock und Stein und viele Brücken zum Sunset Point mit herrlicher Aussicht. Es erinnerte mich etwas and die Waitangi Treaty Grounds in Neuseeland... Man muss übrigens immer alles geschlossen halten, denn die Affen nutzen jede Gelegenheit und gehen schnurstracks an den Proviant - so hat mir einer bereits einen Sack Chips aus meinem Zimmer geklaut, ob er die superscharfen Chillichips wohl mag? ; )

In the late afternoon I went on one of the guided excursions that the Hampi's Boulder offers. It went over hill and dale and many bridges to Sunset Point with a great view! It reminded me a bit of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds in New Zealand... By the way; Here you have to keep everything closed, because the monkeys take every opportunity and go straight to the provisions – one has already stolen a bag of chips from my room, I wonder whether it likes the hot and spicy ones? ; )

Am Montag Morgen fand ich eine schöne Joggingstrecke durch die Reisfelder und Felsbrocken... dank maps.me. Ich sah extrem viele Vogelarten, leider sind sie sehr scheu und ich hatte meine Kamera nicht dabei...

On Monday morning I found a beautiful jogging route through the rice fields and boulders... thanks to maps.me. I spotted extremely many kinds of birds, unfortunately they are very shy and I didn't have my camera with me...

Am Nachmittag fuhr ich mit dem Jeep des Hotels zur Fähre nach Hampi, zu Fuss in der Hitze sind die 10 km kaum zu bewältigen! Die Fähre fährt wenn sie voll ist oder viele Leute am andern Ufer warten. So war ich im Nu auf der andern Seite beim grossen Haupttempel. Auf der Suche nach einem echten Espresso traf ich im Mango Tree Lalita & Tim, die ich im Zug von Goa nach Gokarna kennengelernt hatte! Wir verbrachten eine vergnügliche Zeit bis ich kurz vor 17 Uhr eine der letzten Fähren nahm und mit dem Shuttlejeep zurück ins Hampi's Boulders gefahren wurde. : )

In the afternoon I got a drive with the hotel's jeep to the ferry to Hampi, the 10 km on foot in the heat can hardly be mastered! The ferry goes when it is full or there are many people waiting on the other bank. Soon I was on the other side and in front of the big main temple. In search of a real espresso, I met Lalita & Tim at the Mango Tree, whom I had met on the train from Goa to Gokarna! We spent a pleasant time until I took one of the last ferries shortly before 5 pm and was driven back to Hampi's Boulders by shuttle jeep. : )
